Hotel Posada de las Monjas is in a building that was once part of the convent for Las Monjas ("La Concepción") church next door.
"A friend from Mx. DF told me to stay here when visiting San Miguel and I'm so glad I did. The rooms are "european style," I guess you'd say-- they are roomy and the bathrooms are amazing (LOVED the showers!). There was no TV in my room when I stayed, but if you're going to visit this town, you have no reason to sit in your room watching TV, you'd be missing out on too much!!
Also, it is about 1 block from the Zocalo (Jardin), where you can find internet access for about $1/30mins, plenty of cantinas, gift shops, beautiful architecture, and random but absolutely amazing entertainment at night.
The hotel has a very nice restaurant with wonderful staff. If you get bored, however, the 1 block walk between the hotel and the Zocalo is filled with great restaurants... including one right across the street from the hotel, open all hours of the day I believe, that serves tortilla soup that's beyond delicious."

"Posadas is a wonderful place for those who are looking for a Mexican hotel in a wonderful Mexican town. The rooms are spartan, but then so is the price. That being said, spartan doesn't mean boring... Posdas is certainly not that! Take a walk around the property, look on all of the roof top decks... walk around the pleasant courtyards... dine in the restaurant (which they will open for you if you only ask)... this is Mexico.
Posdas is a nice short walk from the Jardin and right in the middle of all of the action. Buy a torta from the lady under the bridge right outside of the door... This is Mexico, not America. This is what you come to Mexico for... not to make it just like America. The staff don't all speak English.. but then , this is Mexico... if you want all English speakers, stay in LA.. or New York... This is Mexico!
When we were checking out, the daughter of the owner wanted to thank us for being such good customers, she gave us a little brass bell... to remind us of the bells of San Miguel.... you don't get THAT kind of experience at the Hilton or Sheraton... this is Mexico... at its finest....
Would I stay here again??? ABSOLUTELY!"
